You’ve got the crib, the clothes, and the diapers all ready for your new arrival. But what about the medicine cabinet? From cutting tiny fingernails to first fevers, stocking your medicine cabinet will give you some extra peace of mind that you are well prepared to tend whatever you may be faced with.
Here are some suggestions of items to keep on hand:
- Diaper cream – while it’s not necessarily an immediate problem, it’s a good idea to have on hand just in case.
- Fever reducers – while not to be given lightly, it’s good to be prepared with baby acetaminophen (like Tylenol) for those first fevers.
- Medicine syringe – useful, but infant medications usually come with measuring devices already
- Baby nail clippers – adult sized clippers are not advised. Use one sized just right for those little hands and toes.
- Thermometer – the rectal kind provide the best readings for newborns
- Petroleum jelly – multipurpose, safe, and bound to be used on various occasions
- Bulb suction and saline drops – it’s best to avoid overuse of them, but when used appropriately, stuffy noses don’t need to leave you feeling helpless.
- Cotton balls and/or swabs – numerous uses!
